Solix, Inc. to Expand Downtown Killeen Location
The Killeen Economic Development Corporation (KEDC) approved a job creation incentive package for Solix, Inc. at their meeting Monday, May 7, 2018. The company plans to expand services at their downtown Killeen location and add new jobs at their existing location, which will result in the creation of up to 180 new jobs over the next three years. The Killeen facility was among several sites considered for expansion, including El Paso, TX. The company chose the Killeen site in part due to the competitive incentive package offered by KEDC and the availability of a talented workforce in the Killeen area.
Killeen Mayor and KEDC member Jose Segarra remarked, “I am excited that we were able to facilitate this agreement with Solix. They are clearly committed to continued investment in downtown Killeen, an area the city has worked tirelessly to redevelop.”
To qualify for KEDC’s job creation incentive, Solix, Inc. is required to maintain a minimum base employment of 175 jobs that predate the effective date of the agreement, and to hire and maintain 180 additional, full-time equivalent positions each year over a 36-month period following the effective date of the Agreement. The company must maintain its operations at 402 E. Ave D and lease an additional 6,000 square foot building for a second operation in downtown Killeen.
KEDC works to promote and develop commercial, industrial and manufacturing enterprises and to promote and encourage employment and public welfare. Offering employment incentives to companies like Solix is one way the organization fulfills these goals. KEDC Chair Charlie Watts explains, “Economic development is a vital part of our community’s ability to grow long-term. Part of that strategy is being able to offer incentives like this to both new and existing businesses. Without these incentives, we would not be competitive with other cities who are marketing and recruiting to businesses for these jobs.”
