ConsumerAffairs Names Killeen Number 6 in Texas for Least Distracted Driving Fatalities
Killeen was recently ranked 6th safest in the state for distracted driving fatalities by ConsumerAffairs. The data, gathered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) from local police departments, is averaged on a 100,000-person population. This ensures an even the playing field for communities of all sizes and accurate ranking.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation and the NHTSA, there were 6.1 million police-reported crashes in 2014 (the most current available data).- 32,675 people were killed and 2.3 million injured in motor vehicle crashes
- 31% of fatalities were alcohol-related
- 28% were caused by speeding
- 10% of fatalities were caused by distracted driving
