Avoid Scammer Transactions With Your Chamber

Scammers are everywhere on the internet and they’re getting harder and harder to decipher from what is a legitimate transaction and what is not. As more and more scammers get more and more creative with ways to get you to willfully hand your hard-earned money over to them while keeping you from receiving what you were originally trying to purchase. It has come to our attention that these one-way transactions are targeting our chamber members, so here are some practices we, and any other legitimate business, provide to help prevent anything like this from happening to you.

Never Trust Facebook Transactions

The Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce will NEVER ask you to pay through Facebook or any other social media account. While we do have social media and promote our events through social media we will ALWAYS provide a link to our direct website to purchase anything from tickets, registrations, or sponsorships. You will be sent a receipt and confirmation of your transaction via email.

In almost all occasions, you can also purchase your ticket or entry fee to any of our events at the event itself, unless it is an RSVP event.

Proof of Purchase

Again, all transactions through The Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce go through our secure IP address. We also offer ‘snail mail’ payment options for your Chamber Membership Invoices to ensure your transactions with us are safe and secure.

When making a purchase be sure to check the email you’ve provided to us when making the payment and save the receipt and confirmation email to prove you’ve made the purchase with us.

Do a Little Digging

As the adage goes, “If something is too good to be true, it probably is,” we as the Chamber of Commerce will not directly message you from any of our Chamber Social Media handles directly asking you for money. If this happens to you be sure to double-check and thoroughly investigate that page to make sure it’s not an imposter trying to get a quick payday.

If you ever get a Direct Message from a Killeen Chamber social media account that you did not reach out to first and it sends you any link or form of payment method DO NOT click any of those links or purchase anything through them.

At the end of the day if you’re unsure or something just doesn’t seem quite right and you want to verify, our phone lines are open Mon-Friday from 8 AM – 5 PM or you can email info@killeenchamber.com and we can confirm with you if your interaction came from us or not.

We are here to help you and your business earn money not take it away from you. Below is a link provided from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of 10-Tips To Avoid Scams.
A good rule of thumb would be this, if the transaction does not come from the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce’s direct website, an invoice directly from the Chamber, or a purchase at the Chamber event, it is likely a scam. Stay vigilant and stay safe.
